Abstract

The use of polyvinylalcohol (PVA) for the modification of the gelatin phase in the hydroxyapatite/gelatin (HAp-GEL) nanocomposites without altering the apatite phase was described. The cross-linkages between the PVA and GEL were investigated using FTIR and DTA. The chemical interactions between the HAp crystals, GEL macromolecules, and PVA polymers were also analyzed using the diffuse reflectance FTIR. The results show that PVA is effective to give more uniformity and toughness for HAp/GEL nanocomposites.
