Abstract

The synthesis and chemical modification of hydroxyapatite (HAp)/gelatin (GEL) nanocomposites were analyzed using polyvinylalcohol (PVA). Thermal analysis was also carried out on the dried samples to evaluate the bond formation among HAp crystals, GEL molecules, and PVA polymer. The XRD showed that the crystal phase in the composite was HAp. By the use of thermal analysis and FT-IR spectra, chemical bond formation between PVA and GEL molecules of HAp/GEL composite through the cross-linkage reaction using GA was also confirmed. The results show that PVA was effective in giving more uniformity and toughness to HAp/GEL nanocomposite.
