Nonlinear velocity compensation for effective force testing

Abstract

The use of velocity feedback correction with phase compensation for successful implementation of effective force testing (EFT) is discussed. The flow to be compensated is determined as the product of the actuator piston area and the measured velocity of the piston or the structure to which it is attached. The servovalve should be sized such that its maximum spool opening during the test is within 80% of its full capacity. The results suggest that velocity response spectra can be used to estimate the required maximum spool opening for a specific structure tested for a specific earthquake ground acceleration record.
