Abstract
A description is given of the definition of distributed systems in terms of the traditional problems of data management, process management and resource management focusing on the differences in approach engendered by the definition of distributed systems which the authors propound. Programming of distributed systems is then discussed in terms of the differences forced by the absence of shared variables and memory and the necessity for defining a logical network architecture.
