The First International Swine Cluster of Differentiation (CD) Workshop was organized to standardize the assignment of monoclonal antibody (mAb) reactivity to swine leukocyte antigens, using the nomenclature adapted for the human CD antigens. This workshop took place over the last 3 years with the summary meeting being held in Budapest, Hungary, on 16 August 1992, as a satellite to the Third International Veterinary Immunology Symposium. The workshop was supported by the Veterinary Immunology Committee of the International Union of Immunological Scientists (IUIS) and was chaired by the first author. Early planning was coordinated with Drs. Armin Saalmueller, Mark D. Pescovitz, Richard Binns, and Margaret Carr, with guidance from Dr. Chris Howard, the chair of the First Bovine CD Workshop.
