Eight years ago we began investigating the role that computers could play in engineering education. A joint study contract with IBM provided us with the opportunity to develop and test ideas for using computers in education. This paper outlines our ideas on how to use computers to enhance engineering education. We have already implemented some of these ideas which we will describe in more detail. Others we hope to reach in the future. We are keenly aware of the pitfalls we face, and the hard work that remains. Primarily though, we share the excitement engendered by actively involving students in the learning process through the use of computers.
