Abstract
We have developed novel quantitative polarized light methods for use in alignment imaging of fiber networks. These non-invasive methods have the advantages of simple and inexpensive implementaton and high speed imaging, as compared to traditional polarized light methods. Demonstrations of applications include generation of microsocpic and macroscopic alignment images of fibroblast-populated collagen gels undergoing cell-induced compaction and reorganization, and the comparison of leaflets from a native and bioartificial cardiovascular valve.
