Base hydrolysis of (η5-C5Me5)ZrCl 3 in tetrahydrofuran (THF) yields [(η5-C 5Me5)ZrCl]3(O)(OH)4·2THF which, according to X-ray structural analysis, contains a triangular Zr 3 core capped above and below by μ3-O and μ3-OH groups and edge-bridged by three μ2-OH groups.
