Abstract
Popcorn (zea mays everta) is one of the oldest, truely North American foods currently grown in the United States. The origin of popcorn dates back to the days of the early American Indians who cultivated popcorn and developed over 700 varieties before introducing it to the first English colonists arriving in North America. The Indians used popcorn as a dietary staple as well as for decorative dress.
