Abstract

The changes in reconstituted collagen sponge subjected to a freeze-thaw cycle were characterized. For a series of experimental conditions (cooling rate and composition of the freezing solution), the swelling ratio, average pore size, and tensile properties (ultimate strength, upper and lower modulus) were determined. These values were compared with values for control sponges which had not been subjected to the freezing process.
