N2 - To the Editor: In contrast to their initial report, which emphasized either transient post-partum hypothyroidism1,2 or transient recurrence of hyperthyroidism after delivery in Graves' disease,3 the more recent report of Amino et al. (April 8 issue)4 documented that most (70 per cent) of their post-partum patients had an initial transient thyrotoxic phase. Such results are now in agreement with our observations from Canada,5,6 where we observed that most of our post-partum patients with transient hypothyroidism had an initial transient thyrotoxic phase with a suppressed radioactive-iodine thyroid uptake.
