Abstract

The use of postsecondary educational requirements in employment decisions is reviewed from a legal perspective. Specific attention is given to the use of bachelor's degrees, advanced degrees, and specific and general course work requirements in hiring, advancement, and professional licensure decisions. A review is provided of court cases and decisions of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in which the use of postsecondary educational requirements in employment decisions has been challenged. This is followed by a discussion of the issues, trends, and perspectives that appear to be emerging from the case law. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved).
