Abstract

INTEGRAL METHODS HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THE PREDICTION OF THEFAR FIELD THERMAL IMPACT OF A NUCLEAR WASTE REPOSITORY. THIS STUDY IS FOCUSED ON THE APPLICATION OF INTEGRAL METHODS TOCALCULATE APPROXIMATE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS IN THE GEOLOGIC REGION AND HEAT TRANSFER FROM THE REPOSITORY TO THE EARTH'S SURFACE IN A COMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT MANNER. THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IS UNSTEADY HEAT CONDUCTION IN A MULTILAYER SEMI-INFINITE DOMAIN WHERE THE HEAT SOURCE IS A FUNCTION OF TIME AND IS CONTAINED WITHIN ONE OF THE SUBLAYERS.
