Abstract

A thermochemical technique for urea determination has been developed based on the measurement of heat production as a sample flows through an adiabatic column filled with urease immobilized on controlled porosity glass. While in the column, the urea in the sample is completely converted to products by the catalytic action of the urease and heat is stoichiometrically generated. This heat raises the effluent temperature which is monitored at the column exit using a 100K thermistor.
