Abstract

The larynx is a specialized, multifunctional organ. It plays a role in several different functions including speech, cough, deglutition, and Valsalva maneuver. The most common malignancy of the larynx is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). However, several nonsquamoid malignancies have been described in the larynx. They may be derived from glandular or mesenchymal tissue such as minor salivary glands and neuroendocrine elements. Our aim in this chapter is to characterize uncommon malignancies that occur in the larynx and discuss relevant therapeutic and prognostic information.
