Abstract

This article describes how to adjust particle-size data from multiple assays so as to eliminate the effect of sampling errors. The procedure is to find the recirculating load for which the sum of the squared adjustments is a minimum. The algorithm as presented applies to particle-size data for three hydrocyclone streams. But the same technique can be applied to any material balance inconsistencies in any three-stream unit process - e.g. chemicals entering and leaving a flotation bank, or feed, concentrate and tailings in a mineral-separation process.
