Abstract
If the U.S. opts for underground sequestration of CO2 to tackle its contribution to global warming, how will the government regulate the activity? David W. Keith of the University of Calgary (Canada), Julie A. Giardina and M. Granger Morgan with Carnegie Mellon University, and Elizabeth J. Wilson from the University of Minnesota point out that Florida already injects large quantities of wastewater underground with federal and state oversight. However, Florida's experience with underground wastewater disposal suggests that the regulatory framework is not ready for CO2 injection.
