Abstract
Grounded theory and deductive qualitative analysis share an intellectual heritage with social work. Common roots include a focus on lived experiences of research participants, who in social work typically are service users and service providers. They also incorporate other qualities associated with social work, such as understanding persons in context, action orientation, and focus on understanding multiple perspectives through immersion in the field. Research findings, therefore, are useful and usable to practitioners.
