Abstract

Respirable aerosol concentrations in six size ranges were measured in commercial turkey grower barns during the winter and summer. Concentrations of particles in the 1. 2-2. 5 micron size range were the highest in both seasons. Total concentrations were higher in the winter and increased with bird age. Hourly concentrations, which varied greatly, were related to bird activity. Work is also underway to accurately describe the ventilation of commercial turkey grower barns to correlate ventilation with aerosol concentrations.
