Abstract

An algorithm is presented to predict the erosion rate of sediment from the bed of the pond. This algorithm is built on H. A. Einstein's bedload concepts. Typical predicted results are presented. In the second section, the turbulent characteristics of the flow measured in a pilot scale pond are given. These characteristics include turbulent diffusion coefficients obtained from measured mean square velocities and Eulerian time scales. Both of these concepts are used in a general pond simulation model called BASIN developed by B. N. Wilson and B. J. Barfield. This simulation program accounts for possible redeposition of eroded particles as well as the trapping of particles from an inflow sedimentgraph. Refs.
