Because of the complexity of diagnosis of schizophrenia in children and adolescents, this issue is discussed, followed by a discussion of the epidemiology of the illness in this population. Research into the pathophysiology of schizophrenia in youth is reviewed, including studies of genetics, brain imaging, and neuropsychology.
