Abstract
We report simultaneous mass transport and third-sound measurements on a He4 film adsorbed on a flat glass substrate in the vicinity of the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. The effective thermal conductance deduced from the mass transport measurements is consistent with earlier work on Mylar. The attenuation of third sound is observed to rise dramatically in the vicinity of the transition in general agreement with expectations. Results for sT as a function of film thickness are presented.
