Abstract
The formation of tetrahedral nanocrystals of CoO from Co2(CO)8 was investigated. The analysis of both the amorphous and nanocrystalline components yielded compositions ranging from CoN0.67O1.3 to CoN0.18O0.72. The broad distribution in composition resulted from the variation in the processing history among the particles. The control of particle size was achieved by variation of the temperature of the precursor vessel and the partial pressure of Co(CO)3(NO).
