Abstract

Measurement of extensional flow behavior is still relatively undeveloped in comparison to shear rheometry. The measurement of very viscous materials in uniaxial extension has made great progress; however, relatively few results are available in planar or biaxial extension. Recently, the authors suggested that lubricated stagnation flow dies can be used for generating steady extensional flow. This paper reports initial experimental results with a lubricated planar stagnation die using a polystyrene melt and silicone oil as lubricant.
