Abstract
Synthesis of rutile TiO2 from high titanium slags by using sodium based microwave roasting-phosphoric acid leaching-microwave calcination was investigated in the present. The results were characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR and Raman spectroscope, respectively. XRD results showed that anosovite phase in high titanium slags transferred into rutile phase after microwave processing. SEM images indicated that a short rod-like structure of rutile was observed on the sample after experiment. FT-IR spectra displayed that absorption band at 515.73 cm− 1, blue-shifted to 547.54 cm− 1, indicated that the crystal structure has changed. Raman spectrum showed that low-valent titanium at 148.8 cm− 1 and 651.4 cm− 1 is transformed into rutile TiO2. Based on the achieved results, this method can be applied to produce rutile TiO2 from high titanium slags.
