Abstract

Unified gauge theories of strong and electroweak interactions predict superheavy magnetic monopoles. (Their mass is tens of nanograms.. They were produced in the big bang. We consider the monopoles' subsequent history and estimate their velocities and flux near the sun. The bulk of the monopoles appear fast enough to ionize matter. The anticipated flux is not large, but it may be measurable.
