Abstract

Development of holomorphy-based methods in super-Yang-Mills theories started in the early 1980s and led to exactβfunctions: first NSVZ and then a relatively recently derived similar expression in heterotic N = (0; 2) two- dimensional CP(1) model. The present work is interpretational. Extending the method which led to the above beta function it is found that both the first and the second coeffcients inβfunctions in non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills can be split into two parts the first is an integer counting the number of various relavant symmetries in N = 1 super-Yang-Mills (anti-screening) and a relatively small additional (quantum) term with the opposite sign correspond- ing to conventional screening. This result is presented in Eqs. (1) and (15).
