Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

To meet the expanding epidemic of worldwide morbid obesity, giving rise to significant dyslipidemia, knowledge of the surgical history of the development of the partial ileal bypass operation, the contribution of the Program on the Surgical Control of the Hyperlipidemias (POSCH), and the efficacious outcomes of bariatric surgery procedures is essential to the armamentarium of the researcher and the practitioner. This review provides a brief summary of metabolic surgery as applied to the normalization of circulating lipid concentrations, the impact of this modification on body lipid mechanisms and the practical use of bariatric surgery procedures today.
