Abstract
1. The reaction of furfurylidene ketones with dimethylsulfoxonium methylide leads to the formation of furylcyclopropyl ketones in about 90% yield. 2. Reaction of both the cyclopropane ring and the double bond with the furan ring, leading to the formation of aromatic hydrocarbon ions, occurs in the dissociative ionization upon electron impact of the furylcyclopropyl and furfurylidene ketones.
