Abstract
Breeding and commercialization of this diploid, cross-pollinated, annual, aquatic cereal is discussed. The genetics of certain agronomic traits, such as shattering resistance, tiller synchrony and increased seed size are also covered along with a discussion of the effects of automatic selection (repeated cycles of planting harvested seed).
