Abstract

This chapter provides an informed perspective on the current and future state of behavioral operations (BeOps) research. A survey of papers published in five key operations management (OM) journals finds that the rate of publication for BeOps research has more than doubled over the past 5 years. The survey also reveals interesting trends in the types of OM applications explored, methodologies used, and behavioral assumptions tested in recent behavioral research. The chapter concludes by outlining four emerging topic areas for behavioral investigation including healthcare operations, retail operations, social and sustainable operations, and supply chain risk.
