Abstract

The topographical distribution of proteins in the plasma membranes of synaptosomes isolated from mouse brain was analyzed by studying their accessibility to pyridoxal phosphate and to trypsin. Evidence is presented that neither of these reagents entered the synaptosome in significant quantities under the conditions employed. The problem posed by the presence of contaminants in the synaptosome preparation is discussed, and its quantitative contribution to the results obtained is estimated.
