Abstract

The authors describe the use of sacral nerve blocks in conjunction with air cystometry and sphincter electromyography to determine the functional innervation of the bladder and sphincters. This technique has aided in the selection of patients for sacral rhizotomy. Phenol sacral nerve blocks have been used successfully in treating hyperactive bladder disease and intractable perineal pain.
