Abstract

Experimental data on the thermoelectric power and electrical resistivity of dilute Au-V alloys are presented, as are resistivity results for Au-Al. A maximum of 5.8 μV/°K in the thermoelectric power near 200°K is reported, and a drop in the vanadium contribution to the resistivity with increasing temperature is found (consistent with Kume's work) in the measured range of 75 - 940°K. Evidence is offered suggesting that the Au-V anomalies are consistent with the quasi-bound state theory. The low solubility of V in Cu (≈ 0.1%) impeded attempts at studying Cu-V alloys.
