Abstract
The paper describes the computational developments towards thermal/structural modeling and analysis via a generalized common numerical methodology for effectively interfacing these interdisciplinary areas. The proposed formulations use transform methods in conjunction with finite element developments for each of the heat transfer and structural disciplines, respectively. The thermal/structural elements formulated via the TMFE approach are applied to several problems. These include: a) A structural member with surface convection encased between fixed supports, b) An axisymmetric hollow cylinder heated internally, and c) An axisymmetric hollow cylinder with internal heating, and d) A flexural member with combined thermal/mechanical effects.
