Abstract

Arthroplasty performed for complex proximal humerus fractures has traditionally been associated with reliable pain relief but inconsistent patient outcome and satisfaction. Tuberosity displacement or nonunion is most often associated with poorer results. Careful restoration of height and version maximize the opportunity for anatomic tuberosity healing and therefore shoulder function. The use of caution during the rehabilitation phase may also minimize stress of the repair. Attention to these intraoperative and postoperative details may improve tuberosity healing and therefore patient outcome.
