Abstract

Nexus is an object-oriented distributed operating system for local-area networks of heterogeneous workstations. The authors present the salient features of the Nexus design and its type management system. The Nexus design explicitly provides mechanisms for type inheritance and for simultaneously supporting different versions for a given abstract type in the network. A functional view of the type management system is considered.
