Abstract
The application of a geographical information system in attempts to conserve aquatic biota in the Clinch River basin in Virginia and Tennessee, USA, is described. The components of a system developed for application to rivers in the region are outlined. The potential of geographical information systems in similar applications to the conservation of riverine systems is also discussed. (D.W.T.)
