Abstract

The influences of vegetation on processes in small river channels are discussed, with particular attention to the effects of in- channel organic accumulations and to the role of vegetation characteristics as indicators of channel change. Both of these aspects are analysed in relation to data from a long-term experiment conducted in the New Forest, southern England. The management implications of organic debris removal are considered.
