Abstract
The viscosity of two-dimensional suspensions was studied. It was found that the scaling arguments were equally valid in two dimensional monolayers at coexistence. The area fraction of the solid phase replaced the volume fraction of hard spheres. The monolayer shear viscosity was measured by determining the terminal velocity of a magnetic needle floated at the air/water interface in a Langmuir trough driven by the magnetic field gradient between two parallel electromagnetic coils.
