Abstract

A reconfigurable wavelength-selective switch that independently distributes 128 input wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) channels to four output ports, was presented. The switch fabrication was based on free-space optics and microelectromechanical system (MEMS) micro-mirrors technologies. A 10 Gb/s return-to-zero (RZ) data transmission through the switch showed negligible channel degradation and a large channel margin as required for next-generation transparent transport systems.
