Abstract
This chapter provides a brief introduction to research on the development of cognitive control, which refers to the neurocognitive processes involved in the intentional modulation of thought, action, and emotion. Individual differences in cognitive control measured in childhood predict key developmental outcomes, and interventions designed to foster its healthy development have the potential to help children at risk for a wide range of difficulties.
