Abstract
A high performance network known as an interconnect used in supercomputers as high performance system, is discussed. The interconnects used on supercomputers are either Quadrics or Myrinet, which are proprietary and expensive. Linpack is a matrix multiplication problem used to measure performance of the TOP500 computers in the world. The PCI and PCI-X, bus have been performance bottlenecks in using commodity systems to build high performance computers (HPC).
