Abstract

Concern over functional capability, technical problems, and early graft loss have limited the transplantation of pediatric kidneys into adult recipients at some centers. While studies have shown that through compensatory hypertrophy the pediatric kidney approaches adult size within weeks of the transplant, the effects of the harvest and transplant surgery, and of possible rejection episodes that may follow are unresolved.
