Abstract

Begins the discussion by asking "Why Applied Geography?' All geography is applicable, so why bother adding the adjective "applied' in front of "geography'? According to the author, a geographical perspective helps people understand the world around them, which is the essential criterion, whether or not a practioner opts to attach the nametag "applied' onto his or her business card. Professional geographers in all sectors of the economy add to the public's image of the field, so the critical caveat is to do as good a job as possible, irrespective of one's title. Ends with a plea for academic and nonacademic geographers to work toward a common end and not bicker over petty differences of opinion. -from Editor
