Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the fundamental aspects of polymer synthesis for nonspecialist readers and covers basic processes in chain and step polymerization. Molecular weight averages, distributions, and their control are covered. In addition, polymerization thermodynamics, copolymers, polymer modification, nonlinear polymers, and controlled polymerizations are all discussed.
