Abstract
In adult scoliosis it is thus seen that a very careful analysis of the patient needs to obtained. This is via a detailed history, complete and detailed physical examination with the use of appropriate spinal x-rays, and additional tests to elucidate the problem. Once the problem has been analyzed, appropriate treatment modalities are chosen. In an adult with a spine deformity an analysis of the problem and the patient's appreciation of the expected results are important. Because of the complexity of the procedures and a high complication rate, surgery should always be the last resort with good indications present and a patient who understands the expected outcome and complexities of the procedure. Only with this care to detail will a good surgical outcome and a satisfied patient result.
