Abstract
The paper describes generalized device-independent computer graphics interface techniques for applications to monochrome/color devices. Two approaches towards device independence are emphasized. The design structure of one approach entitled 'Device Independent Graphics Interface TECniques (DIGITEC)' involves the development of specific drivers for each output device and is best characterized in terms of the model of a general-purpose graphics interface system. The other is the Adaptive Graphics Interface Approach and is designed based upon the fact that several types of output devices can be driven via the same commercial plotting package. The concepts addressed provide flexibility and generality and offer potential for further extension.
