Abstract

A theory to describe the rheological behavior of fibrillar gels is developed and experimental results for reconstituted type I collagen gel are presented. The theory is shown to describe the gel mechanics, and the values of model parameters are determined based on rheological data. This appears essential for an accurate description of the mechanics of tissue equivalents.
