Abstract

Ways in which catchment and land-use planning can help to conserve and enhance river corridors are discussed. River corridors are defined as rivers and adjacent land having a value determined by the presence of the river. The importance of river corridors in strategic planning, threats to their integrity, the future of catchment planning and the approach adopted in the Thames region of England are considered.
